Uzbekistan’s Migration Agency Investigates Use of Force Against Migrants in Moscow

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Agency for Migration of Uzbekistan has responded to media reports alleging the use of force against migrants during a recent raid in Russia.

On 8 June 2025, in Moscow’s Sokolniki district, reports emerged in the media suggesting that officers of the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya) used physical force against civilians during an operation to verify the legal status of foreign workers temporarily residing in Russia.

An official explanation from Russian law enforcement authorities is currently awaited. Meanwhile, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan and the Agency’s Representative Office in the Russian Federation have placed the situation under strict supervision.

According to preliminary information, 5–6 individuals with documentation violations were detained during the raid. They were taken to a local police station for further investigation. Among those detained, two Tajik nationals have reportedly been deported.

In light of the increasing interest from the Russian government and major employers in organizing and regularizing labor migration from Uzbekistan, the reported mistreatment of foreign citizens by individual law enforcement officers is a matter of serious concern.

If any Uzbek citizens were physically harmed, had their rights violated, or encountered difficulties during the incident, they are strongly encouraged to immediately contact the Agency’s Representative Office in Russia via the following channels:
