Uzbekistan’s GDP increases by 7.5% in 1Q 2012
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Gross domestic product (GDP) of Uzbekistan grew by 7.5% in the first quarter of 2012. This was announced at the session of the Government of Uzbekistan on 20 April, which was dedicated to the results of social-economic development of Uzbekistan in the first three months of 2012.

The growth of industrial output of Uzbekistan made up 6% in the reporting period, agriculture production – 6.1% and construction works – 6.6%.

The State Budget was executed with 0.2% surplus to the GDP. The inflation level did not exceed the forecasted volume.

It was said that production of consumer goods rose by 5.4%, localized goods – by 19.4%, retail trade turnover – 11%, and services – by 12.5%. Share of services in GDP made up 52.1% in the reporting period against 48.5% in the same period of 2011.

Adopted measures helped to increase the volume of attracted investments by 4.4% in the first quarter of 2012. Some 127 new production objects were commissioned.

The government’s session said that over 234,000 new jobs were created in Uzbekistan in the reporting period, of which 153,000 or 65% in rural areas.
