Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover reaches US$32.12bn in Jan-Aug

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to the results of January-August 2022, the foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan reached 32 126.6 million US dollars, which, compared to the same period in 2021, increased by 6 975.0 million US dollars (an increase of 27.7%).

Of the total volume of the FTT, exports amounted to 12 697.8 million US dollars (by January-August 2021, an increase of 36.5% was noted), and imports – 19 428.7 million US dollars (an increase of 22.6%). As a result, the balance of foreign trade turnover amounted to a passive balance in the amount of 6 730.9 million US dollars.

Among the 20 major partner countries in foreign economic activity, there is an active foreign trade balance with four countries, in particular with such countries as Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Turkey. There is a passive balance of foreign trade turnover with 16 countries.

To date, the Republic of Uzbekistan has trade relations with 188 countries of the world. The largest volume of foreign trade turnover was recorded with China (18.8%), the Russian Federation (17.7%), Kazakhstan (8.9%), Turkey (7.0%), the Republic of Korea (5.2%), Kyrgyzstan (2.4%) and Germany (2.2%).

In the structure of foreign trade turnover of the republic, a significant share was noted in the city of Tashkent, which is 38.7%, or 12 437.8 million US dollars, and the smallest share is fixed at 0.8%, or 266.8 million US dollars, which is noted in Surkhandarya region.

The share of foreign trade turnover of the CIS countries in the period under review, compared to the same period in 2021, decreased by 0.2% and their share in foreign trade turnover, according to the results of January-August 2022, amounted to 37.9%.

The volume of foreign trade turnover of other states in January-August 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, increased by 0.2%, respectively, and amounted to 62.1% of the total foreign trade turnover.

The foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the CIS countries reached 12 176.7 million US dollars. Of these, the volume of exports amounted to 4 790.4 million US dollars, and the volume of imports – 7 386.3 million US dollars.

The largest volume of foreign trade turnover with the CIS countries was recorded with the Russian Federation (46.6%), Kazakhstan (23.6%) and Kyrgyzstan (6.2%).

The foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the EAEU countries amounted to 9 627.7 million US dollars. Of these, the volume of exports amounted to 3 414.8 million US dollars, and the volume of imports – 6 212.9 million US dollars.

In January-August 2022, the total number of exporting entities amounted to 5 969 units, which ensured that the volume of exports without gold reached 9 726.9 million US dollars (an increase of 167.6% compared to the same period in 2021).

In the structure of exports, 81.0% is occupied by goods, which mainly fall on industrial goods (24.4%), food products and live animals (7.3%), chemicals and similar products (6.7%).

Due to the increase in exports to other foreign countries, the share of exports to the CIS countries increased and their share in its total volume amounted to 37.7%.

Compared to 2020-2021, our main partners in the export of goods and services in foreign trade turnover in January-August 2022 were such countries as China, the Russian Federation, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Their share in total exports reached 55.2%.

In the structure of exports of the republic, a significant share was noted in the city of Tashkent, which is 23.3%, or 2 960.2 million US dollars, and the smallest share was recorded at 1.0%, or 122.6 million US dollars in Jizzakh region.

The volume of exports of fruits and vegetables in the period under review amounted to 1 103.2 thousand tons and, in value terms, reached 654.5 million US dollars (the growth rate, compared to the same period in 2021, amounted to 19.3%, respectively).

In January-August 2022, the share of fruits and vegetables in total exports amounted to 5.2%. The main export markets for fruits and vegetables are the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, China and Pakistan.

According to the results of January-August 2022, the largest volume in terms of value of exports of fruits and vegetables falls on the Russian Federation (42.4% of the total volume of fruits and vegetables), which exceeds the volume of exports to China by 5.7 times.

According to the results of January-August 2022, the export of textile products was carried out in the amount of 2 178.7 million US dollars, which amounted to 17.2% of the total export volume and, compared to January-August 2021, it increased by 15.2%.

In the structure of exports of textile products, the main share is occupied by cotton yarn (49.6%), as well as finished knitwear and garments (25.8%). In JanuaryAugust 2022, more than 514 types of textile products were exported to 68 countries of the world.

The largest share of textile exports goes to the Russian Federation (823.7 million US dollars - 36.3%) and Turkey (410.7 million US dollars - 18.1%).

The volume of exports of services in January-August 2022 amounted to 2 411.3 million US dollars, or 19.0% of the total volume of trade exports and increased by 47.1% compared to the same period in 2021. As part of the export of services, the lion’s share is occupied by transport services (48.1%), travel (tourism) (38.4%), telecommunications, computer and information services (5.5%), other business services (4.1%).

At the same time, other services (3.9%) account for the largest share, respectively, in financial services (1.5%), insurance and pension services (1.3%), maintenance and repair services (0.4%) and etc.

During the reporting period, imports amounted to 19 428.7 million US dollars (an increase in growth rates, compared to January-August 2021, amounted to 122.6%). The main share in its structure is occupied by machinery and transport equipment (32.5%), industrial goods (19.1%), as well as chemicals and similar products (13.7%).

The analysis of the dynamics of imports of goods also showed that in January-August 2022, compared to the same period in 2021, the volume of imports of goods increased by 2 948.8 million US dollars and amounted to 17 775.7 million US dollars, and imports of services reached 1 653.0 million US dollars.

The share of imports from the CIS countries, compared to the same period in 2021, decreased by 1.6% and their share in foreign trade turnover, according to the results of JanuaryAugust 2022, amounted to 38.0%.

In general, according to the results of January-August 2022, goods and services were imported to the Republic of Uzbekistan from 164 countries. One third of imports come from such large partner countries as the PRC, the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Turkey, Germany and India.

In the structure of imports of the republic, a significant share was noted in the city of Tashkent, which is 48.8%, or 9,477.6 million US dollars, and the smallest share was recorded in Surkhandarya - 0.6%, or 115.9 million US dollars.

The volume of imports of services in January-August 2022 amounted to 1 653.0 million US dollars, or 8.5% of its total volume, and increased by 61.9% compared to the same period in 2021. As part of the import of services, the main share is occupied by travel (tourism - 56.4%), transport services (14.3%), telecommunications, computer and information services (9.3%), other business services (6.7%).

In addition, other services accounted for 13.2% of total imports of services, including a high share of fees for the use of intellectual property (5.2%), construction services (3.0%), maintenance and repair services (2.5%), etc.

According to the results of January-August 2022, in the structure of imports, the volume of machinery and transport equipment reached 6 315.1 million US dollars and increased by 18.4% compared to the same period in 2021; in general, the share in the total volume of imports amounted to 32.5 %.

Imports of machinery and transport equipment increased by 982.3 million US dollars. Most of the supplies of these goods to the country account for the PRC — 2 462.9 million US dollars (39.0%), the Republic of Korea — 1 108.8 million US dollars (17.6%) and Turkey — 495.5 million US dollars (7.8%).

According to the results of January-August 2022, in the structure of imports, the volume of industrial goods reached 3 707.3 million US dollars and increased by 29.5% compared to the same period in 2021; in general, the share in total imports amounted to 19.1 %.

Mainly imports of industrial goods account for cast iron and steel (1 668.6 million US dollars), metal products (480.9 million US dollars), textile yarn, fabrics, finished products (345.5 million US dollars), paper or cardboard (285.3 million US dollars), etc.
