Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover reaches US$10.8 billion in January-February

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In January-February 2025, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover (FTT) amounted to US$10.8 billion, marking an increase of US$973.3 million, or 9.9%, compared to the same period in 2024, according to the National Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

Of the total FTT, exports accounted for US$4.64 billion, reflecting a 27.7% rise compared to January-February 2024, while imports amounted to US$6.2 billion, showing a slight decrease of 0.6%. As a result, the trade balance recorded a deficit of -US$1.56 billion.

Uzbekistan maintains trade relations with 162 countries. The largest share of foreign trade turnover was recorded with China (19.2%), Russia (14.9%), Kazakhstan (6.1%), Türkiye (3.9%), and Afghanistan (2.5%).

In the export structure, goods accounted for 74.7%, with industrial goods making up 12.4%, food products and live animals 6.3%, chemicals and related products 5.9%, and various manufactured goods 3.9%.

The main export partners for goods and services in January-February 2025 were Russia (11.8%), China (6.5%), Afghanistan (4.5%), Kazakhstan (4.0%), Türkiye (3.9%), France (3.1%), Kyrgyzstan (2.6%), the UAE (2.1%), Tajikistan (1.5%), and Pakistan (1.3%), with their combined share in total exports reaching 41.3%.

During the period, 192,900 tons of fruit and vegetable products were exported, a decrease of 23.1% or 58,000 tons compared to the same period in 2024. The export value of fruit and vegetable products amounted to US$175.1 million, reflecting a 16.7% increase year-on-year. Their share in total exports stood at 3.8%.

Uzbekistan’s textile exports reached US$403.7 million, accounting for 8.7% of total exports, but declined by 22.4% compared to January-February 2024. The main textile export categories were finished textile products (45.0%) and yarn (35.0%).

The export of services in January-February 2025 totaled US$1.17 billion, representing 27.3% of total trade exports and increasing by 61.5% compared to the same period in 2024. The bulk of service exports comprised transport services (40.1%), travel (tourism) (39.5%), telecommunications, computer, and information services (12.9%), and other business services (3.7%). Among the latter, construction services accounted for 1.1%, insurance and pension services for 0.8%, and financial services for 0.8%.

During the reporting period, imports amounted to US$6.2 billion, with a slight decrease of 0.6% compared to January-February 2024. The largest share of imports was made up of machinery and transport equipment (36.8%), industrial goods (16.5%), and chemicals and related products (12.2%).

An analysis of import trends showed that in January-February 2025, the volume of imported goods decreased by US$240.8 million compared to the same period in 2024, reaching US$5.54 billion. Meanwhile, the import of services stood at US$660.8 million.

In total, Uzbekistan imported goods and services from 144 countries in January-February 2025. More than two-thirds of imports came from key trading partners, including China (28.7%), Russia (17.3%), Kazakhstan (7.6%), South Korea (4.1%), Türkiye (3.8%), Germany (3.8%), and India (2.8%).

The import of services amounted to US$660.8 million, representing 10.7% of total imports and increasing by 45.4% compared to the same period in 2024. The largest share of service imports consisted of travel (tourism) (60.3%), transport services (19.5%), telecommunications, computer, and information services (8.5%), and other business services (5.9%).
