Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to the results of January-December 2022, the foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan reached US$50 billion, which, compared to the same period in 2021, increased by US$7.83 billion (+18,6%), the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.

Of the total volume of the foreign trade turnover, exports amounted to US$19.31 billion (by January-December 2021 an increase of 15.9% and imports US$30.69 billion (an increase of 20.4%).

As a result, the balance of foreign trade turnover amounted to a passive balance in the amount of US$11.39 billion.

The largest volume of foreign trade turnover was recorded in February 2022 and was noted at the level of US$5.23 billion. Compared to the same month in 2021 its increase was US$2.84 billion. In December 2022 the volume of foreign trade turnover amounted to US$5.06 billion and, compared to the same period in 2021 it decreased by 24.5%.

The foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan in January-December 2022 amounted to US$50 billion, which is 19.8% more than in the same period of 2019.

Among the 20 major partner countries in foreign economic activity, there is an active foreign trade balance with three countries, in particular with such countries as Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan A passive balance of foreign trade turnover is maintained with 17 countries.

To date, the Republic of Uzbekistan has trade relations with 204 countries of the world. The largest volume of foreign trade turnover was recorded with the Russian Federation (18.6%), China (17.8%), Kazakhstan (9.2%), Turkiye (6.4%), the Republic of Korea (4.7%), Kyrgyzstan (2.5%) and Germany (2.3%).

In the structure of foreign trade turnover of the republic, a significant share was noted in Tashkent city, which is 39.1% or US$19.53 billion, and the smallest share was recorded at 0.7% or US$372.8 million, which is noted in Surkhandarya region.

The share of foreign trade turnover of the CIS countries in the period under review, compared to the same period in 2021 increased by 0.6% and their share in foreign trade turnover, in January-December 2022 amounted to 38.4%.

The volume of foreign trade turnover of other states in January-December 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 respectively, decreased by 0.6% and amounted to 61.6% of the total foreign trade turnover.

The foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the CIS countries reached US$19.18 billion. Of these, the volume of exports amounted to US$7.85 billion, and the volume of imports US$11.32 billion.

The largest volume of foreign trade turnover with the CIS countries was recorded with the Russian Federation (48.4%), Kazakhstan (24.1%) and Kyrgyzstan (6.6%).

The foreign trade turnover of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the EAEU countries in the period under review amounted to US$15.72 billion, of which the volume of exports was US$5.57 billion, the volume of imports was US$10.14 billion 

In January-December 2022 the total number of exporting entities amounted to 7,199 units, which ensured that the volume of exports without gold reached US$15.19 billion (an increase of 21.1% compared to the same period in 2021).

In the structure of exports, 79.5% is occupied by goods, which mainly fall on industrial goods (23%), food products and live animals (8.4%), chemicals and similar products (6.7%).

The largest volume of exports was recorded in February 2022 and was noted at the level of 2.7 billion. Compared to the same month in 2021 its increase amounted to US$1.89 billion. In December 2022 the volume of exports amounted to US$1.94 billion and, compared to the same period in 2021 increased by 68.5%.

Due to the growth of exports to other foreign countries, the share of exports to the CIS countries increased and their share in its total volume amounted to 40.7%.

Compared to 2020-2021 our main partners in the export of goods and services in foreign trade turnover in January-December 2022 were such countries as the Russian Federation, China, Turkiye, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Their share in total exports reached 55.5%.

In the structure of exports of Uzbekistan, a significant share was noted in Tashkent, which is 23.9% or US$4.61 billion, and the smallest share was recorded at 1% or US$199.5 million in Jizzakh region.

The volume of exports of fruits and vegetables in the period under review amounted to 1.74 million tons and, in value terms, reached US$1.14 billion (the growth rate, compared to the same period in 2021 amounted to 18 5% respectively).

In January-December 2022 the share of fruits and vegetables in total exports amounted to 5.9%. The main export markets for fruits and vegetables are the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, China and Pakistan.

According to the results of January-December 2022 the largest volume in terms of value of exports of fruits and vegetables falls on the Russian Federation (42.5%) of the total volume of fruits and vegetables), which exceeds the volume of exports to Kazakhstan by 2.3 times.

According to the results of January-December 2022, the export of textile products was carried out in the amount of US$3.17 billion, which amounted to 16.5% of the total export volume and, compared to January-December 2021 it increased by 8.6%.

In the structure of exports of textile products, the main share is occupied by cotton yarn 44.4% as well as finished knitwear and garments (29.2%). In January-December 2022, 552 types of textile products were exported to 73 countries of the world.

The largest share of textile exports goes to the Russian Federation (US$1.26 billion or 39.85%) and Turkiye (US$519.1 million or 16.3%).

The volume of exports of services in January-December 2022 amounted to US$3.96 billion, or 20.5% of the total volume of trade exports and increased by 53.4% compared to the same period in 2021. As part of the export of services, the lion’s share is occupied by transport services (44.3%), travel (40.7%), telecommunications, computer and information services (6.8%) and other business services (3.9%).

At the same time, for other services (4.3%) the largest share, respectively, falls on financial services (1.8%), insurance and pension services (1.4%), maintenance and repair services (0.4%) and etc.

During the reporting period, imports amounted to US$30.69 billion (an increase in growth rates, compared to January-December 2021 amounted to 20.4%). The main share in its structure is occupied by machinery and transport equipment (31.4%), industrial goods (18.8%), as well as chemicals and similar products (13.8%).

An analysis of the dynamics of imports of goods also showed that in January-December 2022 compared to the same period in 2021 the volume of imports of goods increased by US$4.43 billion and amounted to US$28.17 billion, and imports of services reached US$2.52 billion.

The smallest volume of imports was recorded in May 2022 and was noted at the level of US$2.08 billion. Compared to the same month in 2021 its increase was US$40.4 million. In December 2022 the volume of imports amounted to US$3.11 billion and compared to the same period in 2021 it increased by 7.1%.

The share of imports from the CIS countries, compared to the same period in 2021 decreased by 4.2% and their share in foreign trade turnover, in January-December 2022 amounted to 36.9%.

In general, according to the results of January-December 2022 goods and services were imported to the Republic of Uzbekistan from 179 countries. Two third of imports come from such large partner countries as the PRC, the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Korea, Turkey, Germany and Turkmenistan.

In the structure of imports of the republic, a significant share was noted in Tashkent city, which is 48.6% or US$14.91 billion, and the smallest share was recorded in Surkhandarya – 0.5% or US$145.2 million.

The volume of imports of services in January-December 2022 amounted to US$2.52 billion, or 8.2% of its total volume, and increased by 42.9% compared to the same period in 2021. As part of the import of services, the main share is occupied by travel (tourism – 56.6%), transport services (15.5%), telecommunications, computer and information services (9.4), other business services (5.3%).

In addition, other services accounted for 13.2% of total imports of services, including a high share of fees for the use of intellectual property (4.4%), construction services (2.8%), maintenance and repair services (2.5%), etc.

According to the results of January-December 2022 in the structure of imports, the volume of machinery and transport equipment reached US$9.64 billion and increased by 16.9% compared to the same period in 2021, in general, the share in the total volume of imports amounted to 31.4%.

Imports of machinery and transport equipment increased by US$1.39 billion. Most of the deliveries of these goods to the country fall on China – US$3.64 billion (37.8%), the Republic of Korea – US$1.54 billion (16%) and Turkiye – US$726.9 million (7.5%).

According to the results of January-December 2022, in the structure of imports, the volume of industrial goods reached US$5.76 billion and increased by 22% compared to the same period in 2021 in general, the share in the total volume of imports amounted to 18.8%.

Most imports of industrial goods fall on cast iron and steel (US$2.51 billion), metal products (US$730.8 million), textile yarn, fabrics, finished products (US$546.9 million), paper or cardboard (US$466.1 million), etc.
