At the same time, exports of Uzbekistan comprised US$9.173 billion, or fell by 5.4% year-on-year. Uzbekistan imports reached US$6.84 billion, or grew by 2.2% year-on-year.

Current trade balance surplus comprised US$2.333 billion in the reporting period.

Share of the CIS countries in foreign trade of Uzbekistan decreased from 38% in January-September 2008 to 35.6% in January-September 2009. Turnover of Uzbekistan with the CIS states fell by 8.5% year-on-year and made up US$5.695 billion.

Share of non-CIS states in foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan grew from 62% in January-September 2008 to 64.4% in the same period of 2009. Trade turnover of Uzbekistan with these countries grew by 1.5% to US$10.318 billion.

Exports of Uzbekistan with the CIS and non-CIS states decreased by 10.2% and 3.2% respectively and made up US$2.747 billion and US$6.426 billion. Imports with the CIS states also dropped by 6.9% year-on-year to US$2.948 billion, while imports with non-CIS states rose by 10.4% to US$3.892 billion.

Main export items of Uzbekistan were energy and oil products (39.3% of total exports), services (8.4%) and cotton-fiber (7.3%) in the reporting period. Uzbekistan mainly imported machines and equipment (57.5% from total imports), chemical products and goods from them (10.9%) and food products (8.9%).

About 61.9% of total trade turnover of Uzbekistan fell to share of Europe and 35.3% to Asia in nine months of 2009.

Largest trade partners of Uzbekistan were Russia (19.1% in total turnover of Uzbekistan), Switzerland (12%) and China (9.8%) in January-September 2009.
