Uzbekistan’s experience in upholding women’s eights presented in Geneva

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s experience in developing and implementing effective mechanisms for monitoring women’s rights was presented at a Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) event in Geneva.

The roundtable titled "Time to Act: Inclusive, Evidence-Based, and Transformative Solutions for Achieving Gender Equality" was organized on 2 April 2025, during the Regional Forum on SDGs in the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) region.

The event brought together leading experts, policymakers, and representatives of international organizations to discuss key challenges and solutions in the field of gender equality.

During the first panel, which focused on using gender data for policy-making, Dilnoza Muratova, Deputy Director of the National Human Rights Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan, presented Uzbekistan’s experience in developing and implementing effective monitoring mechanisms for women’s rights and their economic and social integration.

The representative from Uzbekistan emphasized the importance of a comprehensive approach in implementing gender policies, as well as the significance of legislative and institutional reforms to protect the rights of women and girls. Mechanisms that can ensure long-term sustainability and political commitment to achieving gender equality were also introduced.

Representatives from other countries, including Armenia, Albania, Spain, Austria, Moldova, as well as experts from international organizations such as UN Women and UNFPA, participated in the discussion on the topic.

Particular attention was given to the exchange of best practices and the analysis of current challenges in the area of gender equality.

In addition to the panel discussions, a video segment from Uzbekistan was presented during the event, showcasing real stories of women who have succeeded thanks to government support programs. This was part of the global "Unstoppable" campaign aimed at promoting best practices for achieving gender equality.

The roundtable concluded with a discussion on the next steps and international cooperation to accelerate progress toward SDG 5. Participants expressed their readiness for further collaboration and the exchange of experiences in the field of women’s rights and sustainable development.
