Uzbekistan’s Embassy in Budapest responds to reports of possible exploitation of migrant

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In response to media reports about possible cases of exploitation of Uzbek migrant workers in Serbia and other countries in the Balkan region, the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Budapest has issued an official statement.

The diplomatic mission emphasized that protecting the rights and legitimate interests of Uzbek citizens abroad is one of the key priorities of the country's state policy. Special attention is given to ensuring the safety of citizens temporarily working in Serbia, creating decent working conditions, and preventing any forms of exploitation.

The Embassy reminded the public that earlier this year, negotiations were initiated between the governments of Uzbekistan and Serbia aimed at developing mutually beneficial and sustainable cooperation in the field of labor migration. One of the main objectives is to establish a legal framework regulating migration processes between the two countries.

The diplomatic mission strongly advises citizens to travel abroad only through licensed agencies and to begin employment only upon signing official labor contracts.

To provide prompt assistance and legal support to compatriots in Serbia, a dedicated task force has been established at the Embassy.
