Economy 20/08/2009 Uzbekistan’s economic growth is highest in CIS in 1H

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan posted the highest gross domestic product (GDP) growth in the first half of 2009, the Statistics Committee of the CIS said.

Uzbekistan’s economy grew by 8.2% in the reporting period and it was followed by Azerbaijan (3.6%), Kyrgyz Republic and Belarus (0.3% each).

GDP decreased in most CIS countries. Thus, in Moldavia its reduction constituted 6.9%, in Georgia - 5.9%, in Kazakhstan - 4.1%. Russia took third place in CIS on GDP downfall on the results of first half of 2009. Economy in Russia reduced 13.4%, in Ukraine, which took the first place - 20.3%, in Armenia - 16.3%.

GDP reduction constituted 9% in all CIS countries in average. Volume of industrial production decreased in all countries, expect for Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
