Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution “On programme of complex measures on social-economic development of Shumanai district of Karakalpakstan Republic for 2011-2013” in late November 2010.

The resolution was adopted for further developing economic potential, production and social infrastructures, strengthen material-technical base of social sphere, effective and rational use of land, water and labour resources, support of small businesses and private entrepreneurs, creation of new jobs and raising income of population in Shumanai district.

The programme is directed at developing small businesses and private entrepreneurship due to support of banks, improving land-improvement of irrigated lands, increasing efficiency of land and water resources, as well as strengthening material-technical base of agriculture enterprises.

The document also envisages developing and raising employment and well-being of population, developing production and social infrastructure, improving water supply, electricity and natural gas to population, etc.

The resolution noted that Bekjap settlement of Hodjeyli district with area of 14,700 hectares was transferred to Shumanai district in line with the decision of Jokargy Kenes (parliament) of Karakalpakstan from 18 November 2010.
