Uzbekistan, US ink a memorandum on fighting illegal drug turnover
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ministry of Interior Affairs of Uzbekistan and the US Drug Enforcement Administration on Middle East/Central Asia signed a memorandum on cooperation on fighting illegal drug turnover, psychotropic means and control over precursors.

The document was inked within the visit of the regional director of US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on Middle East/Central Asia Mark Destito and DEA Tashkent Country Office Attaché Christopher Melink.

During the meeting at the Interior Ministry, the delegation of the USA met with the First Deputy Interior Minister of Uzbekistan major-general Adham Ahmedbaev.

The sides noted mutual satisfaction with cooperation and friendly relations between two states in various areas. Mark Destito and Adham Ahmedbaev underlined importance and necessity of joint efforts in fighting drug business and fighting drug addiction.

Adham Ahmedbaev said that Interior Ministry of Uzbekistan annually participate in international seminars and trainings abroad due to support of international cooperation, support of the UN regional offices and partnership with the US. He said that this helps to raise skills of the Uzbek officers.

After the talks, the sides signed the memorandum on cooperation on fighting illegal drug turnover, psychotropic means and control over precursors.

The sides underlined that the document will serve for further strengthening fruitful cooperation in solving acute problems related to narcotics, and opens new perspectives for further interaction in fighting drug trafficking and crime.
