Uzbekistan, US discuss attraction of foreign investments

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Ministry of Finance held a meeting with a delegation of the US State Department headed by Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Mr. David Meale.

The main purpose of the visit is to get acquainted with the progress of the reforms and take part in annual bilateral intergovernmental consultations between Uzbekistan and the United States.

As Mr. David Meale noted, despite the fact that this is his first visit to the republic, he has long been following the transformations taking place in the Republic of Uzbekistan and the changes over the past two years have made a positive impression on him. He also stressed: “That the ongoing economic and financial transformations will help open a new page in the history of the country. They are not only of great interest for partners at the state level, but also serve as the best way to attract foreign investors. ”

Representatives of the Ministry of Finance briefed the guests on economic reforms, one of the five main priorities of the Action Strategy in 2017-2021. During the meeting, it was told about the measures being implemented to liberalize the markets for currency and securities, and to lift restrictions on all foreign exchange transactions.

At the same time, it was emphasized that an important goal is financial transformation, including the transition to medium-term planning of the State budget and ensuring its transparency, improving the efficiency of internal audit and introducing international accounting standards.

It was also noted that the implementation of these and other initiatives is carried out in close cooperation and with the support of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Following the meeting, the guests expressed their willingness to continue further cooperation and to attract foreign investors in the future.
