Uzbekistan, US consider issues of developing cooperation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan visited Washington on 6-8 September 2011 for reviewing implementation of results of the second round of political consultations, which was held in Tashkent in February 2011.

The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said that the US delegation was led by the US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Robert Blake.

The sides reviewed development of bilateral cooperation on actual directions and exchanged opinion on issues of regional security.

In political sector, the sides underlined importance of the development of the Uzbek-US inter-parliamentary relations.

The sides confirmed their interest in systematic and institutional development of cooperation in law enforcement, fighting illegal drug turnover and nuclear smuggling, improving activity on water laundering and strengthening border.

Special attention was paid to complex of issues on increasing investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United Sates as priority direction of interaction in trade-economic sector.

In particular, the Uzbek side expressed interest in attracting investment of the largest US companies to economy of the country to implement high technologic investment projects.

During the negations, the sides noted priority importance of development of cooperation in science and technology to implement inter-governmental agreement on science-technical cooperation, signed in Tashkent within the visit of the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Decemeber 2010. The agreement laid foundation for expanding perspectives of cooperation in this area.

The Uzbek delegation also held negotiations with the US Senators and Congressmen, representatives of the US Trade Representative Office, and other state bodies.
