Uzbekistan, UK sign memo on activity of British Council

Government of Uzbekistan and Government of the United Kingdom signed a memorandum on activity of British Council in Uzbekistan on 19 August, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said in a statement.
Uzbek Foreign Minister Vladimir Norov and the British Ambassador Rupert Joy signed the memorandum, the ministry said.
In line with memorandum, the British Council office will develop its activity to strengthen cultural relations between Uzbekistan and the UK.
British Council in Uzbekistan will help in establishment of contacts among educational, cultural and scientific establishments of two states, assistance in teaching languages, implementation of projects in education, art, science and professional training, as well as granting stipends to citizens of Uzbekistan to study in the UK.
The Uzbek ministry said the memorandum will enter into force on 19 August 2009.
