Economy 08/01/2008 Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan cut electricity supply to Tajikistan

He said that this resulted in more strict restrictions of electricity supply to Tajikistan. If earlier, electricity was supplied to Tajik people for 4-5 hours a day, now, it is reduced to 2-3 hours, Regnum reported.

Gulov said that such situation would remain until temperature rises, when electricity consumption would be reduced in the countries of the region, and they would be able to import the necessary volumes of electricity to Tajikistan.

Gulov said that lately, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan supplied up to 5m kWh of electricity to Tajikistan daily. A week ago this figure was over 10m kWh. In line with an agreement, Turkmenistan supplies 1.2m kWh and Uzbekistan 600m kWh of electricity during the winter.
