Uzbekistan toughens punishment for violation of road traffic
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed law “On introduction of changes and amendments to Code of Uzbekistan on administrative responsibility” on 26 April 2011, which is directed at ensuring security of road traffic, life and health of population.

Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 16 March 2011 and Senate approved it on 26 March 2011.

In line with the law, it is planned to strengthen responsibility for such violations as drunken car driving, driving car without license, damaging road, creation of accident situation, etc.

For example, drivers, who violated stopping or parking rules, will be fined for the sum equal to three sizes of minimum salary. If the driver repeats violation with a year, the fine will grow up to five sizes of minimum salary. In the third time, driver will have to pay fine equal to 15 sizes of minimum salary. The minimum salary in Uzbekistan currently is equal to 49,735 soums.

Now, drivers, who violated signals of traffic lights or traffic regulator, will be fined for two sizes of minimal salary. Drivers can loss their license for a year if they repeat the same violation for three times in a year.

Owners of the cars with darkened and non-standard glassware, including those with additional objects, which decrease visibility for driver, will be imposed a fine at the size of one minimum salary.

The law also toughens punishment for speeding. Drivers will be fined from five sizes of minimum salary up to 15 sizes for speeding, or they can loss their driving licenses from a year to two years.
