Uzbekistan to withdraw from Central Asian power grid on 17 October
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan has delayed withdrawal from the Central Asian power grid from October 15 to 17, a source in Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company KEGOC said on Thursday.

"We received a cable from Uzbek energy company Uzbekenergo about delay of withdrawal until 17 October," a source said.

KEGOC President Kanat Bozumbaev said during session of the Kazakh government on 8 October that Uzbekistan would withdraw from the Central Asian power grid since 15 October.

According Bozumbaev, the main cause of Uzbekistan’s withdrawal from the Central Asian power grid is payment for transit of electricity via the Uzbek power grid. "This is around US$50-70 million annually," Bozumbaev added.

The KEGOC President said Uzbekistan’s withdrawal from the Central Asian power grid would not affect Kazakhstan somehow.

Earlier, KazTAG reported quoting source in the Uzbekenergo that Uzbekistan will not withdraw from the Central Asian power grid.
