Economy 18/06/2007 Uzbekistan to spend US$343m to modernize construction industry

Uzbekistan plans to realize a programme on modernization, technical and technological re-equipment of enterprises, producing construction materials.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov approved a programme, which envisages investments for US$343 million within five years.

The programme envisages to implement 36 projects in 14 enterprises and US$157.5 million of total investments fell to share to own resources of enterprises US$157.5 million. It is planned to attract US$185.5 million of foreign investment within the programme.

It is planned to direct US$302.4 million to modernization of cement industry, according to the programme.

It is expected that the realization of the programme will allow to increase cement output in the country by 1.5 times to 8.326 million tonnes and roofing slate by 1.3 times to 545 million units, etc.

The programme envisages that the country will grew export by 2.2 times to US$120.63 million.
