Uzbekistan to restrict operations of Chinese marketplace Temu

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The operations of the Chinese e-commerce platform Temu will be restricted in Uzbekistan, according to a joint statement issued by the National Agency for Perspective Projects (NAPP) and the country's Tax Committee.

The statement cites a resolution by the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan (No. 885), adopted on December 26, 2024, which stipulates that only legal entities registered in Uzbekistan may operate as e-commerce providers, including online trading platforms. This regulation came into effect upon the official publication of the resolution.

An analysis of foreign marketplaces serving Uzbek citizens revealed that several platforms do not comply with national legislation in areas such as e-commerce, retail trade, advertising, data protection, consumer rights, and intellectual property.

“In accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the use of the Temu platform will be restricted starting March 20, 2025,” the statement reads.

Uzbek citizens are advised to refrain from placing new orders on Temu. Those who have already made purchases are encouraged to request refunds.

Additionally, NAPP and the Tax Committee urged users to remain vigilant and avoid using foreign marketplaces that are not localized in Uzbekistan or not listed in the official registries of the Tax Committee (including the list of foreign companies and marketplaces). Users were also reminded to take precautionary measures and refrain from sharing personal or other sensitive data with unregistered platforms.
