Uzbekistan to Play at the World Cup for the First Time — Direct Qualification Secured
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — For the first time in its history, the Uzbekistan national football team has qualified for the final stage of the FIFA World Cup — the 2026 tournament.
In the ninth round match of the third qualifying stage, the team led by coach Temur Kapadze drew 0-0 against the UAE, earning 18 points and securing second place in Group A ahead of schedule, which guarantees a direct spot at the World Cup.
Iran leads the group with 20 points after eight matches played.
Uzbekistan will play its final group stage match on June 10 against the national team of Qatar.
It is worth noting that the 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada from 11 June to 19 July.
