Uzbekistan to mark International Peace Day
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A series of events dedicated to International Peace Day will be marked in Uzbekistan from 21 September to 27 September 2012.

The events, which directed at strengthening peace, are organized by Fund Forum, Women’s Council, Center for youth initiative “Kelajak Ovozi”, Social Initiatives Support Fund, UNDP, UN Information Office, UN Women, Special Olimpiad, National Association of NGOs, and others.

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. This year, International Day of Peace is marked under motto “Sustainable peace for sustainable future”.

Series of planned events dedicated to the International Day of Peace will remind society on importance of peaceful settlement of conflicts and to keep peace for future generations.

Park named after Bobur in Tashkent city will host a ceremony on ringing Peace Bell on 21 September. Representatives of ministries and departments, diplomatic corpus, UN agencies, international and public organizations, and others will participate at the event. Within the event, it is planned to hold concert, competition of painting on asphalt, awarding ceremony of the winners of the competition “In the name of peace”.

On the same day, Poytaht Business Center will host a roundtable “On role of NGOs and civil society institutes in supporting peace”. The event will be attended by regional and national NGOs, UN agencies, international structure, state bodies, etc.

Pakhtakor Stadium will host friendly football matches on 22 September. Teams of diplomatic missions, international organizations, and other bodies will attend the competition.

On 27 September, University of World Economy and Diplomacy will host debates on management of natural resources.
