Uzbekistan to limit tobacco, alcohol consumption
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan considered a draft law “On limiting spread and consumption of alcohol and tobacco products”. The draft law was developed within the State Programme “The Year of Harmonically Developed Generation”.

According to experts, consumption of alcohol and tobacco products is serious obstacle for growth of labour productivity, strengthening labour discipline, increasing culture level and keeping health of population, which is important factor in current ecological and social conditions. These pernicious habits could be prevented, adopting preventive measures at the state level.

Zukhra Batirova, deputy chairperson of the committee on labour and social issues of the lower house of parliament, said that the law will limit tobacco smoking and alcohol consumption in order to decrease negative impact to health of population, first of all, those who are under the age of 20.

All negative impacts of alcohol and tobacco products to people under the age of 20 can disrupt harmonically development of person. Consumption of tobacco and alcohol at the age of under 20 creates high risks of fast formation of alcohol and tobacco dependence, which can significantly damage health of the person, family and society as a whole. Alcohol and tobacco consumption also can negatively impact reproductive health. The document will also help to upbringing healthy generation.

It is worth to mention that Japan, USA, Norway and Iceland, as well as other states introduced limitations for consumption of tobacco and alcohol for people under the age of 20-21. This positively impact health of youth, allows to decrease prevalence, death due to alcohol and consumption health, GDP growth, speeding up social-economic development.
