Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  At the first meeting of the United Nations Intergovernmental Commission on the development of the Global Code of Safe Tourism, Uzbekistan was elected as the chair.

The Code aims to ensure the safety of tourists and the sustainable development of the tourism industry globally by establishing a unified standard for adapting to new challenges in travel safety.

The meeting was attended by representatives from 50 countries and the UNWTO. The initiative to develop the Code was proposed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan during the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand in 2023.
