Uzbekistan to increase internal cotton-fiber processing
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is planning to decrease export of cotton-fiber due to increasing the volume of internal processing, an Uzbek official said on Wednesday, 13 October 2010.

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade (MFERIT) Nasriddin Nadjimov said at conference of the Sixth International Cotton Fair said Uzbekistan is creating new capacities and increasing existing once on cotton-fiber processing, which will decrease exports of cotton-fiber. He added that Uzbekistan currently reconstructed and modernized 91 ginneries of existing 99.

Nasriddin Nadjimov underlined that the volume of internal cotton-fiber processing in 2010 will reach 350,000 and in 2011 – 400,000 tonnes.

Nadjimov underlined that Uzbekistan expects that it will produce 1.1 million tonnes of cotton-fiber in 2010-2011 season.

He stated that currently main consumers of the Uzbek cotton are remain Bangladesh, China, Russia and Turkey.

According to the press service of MFERIT, Uzbekistan put 600,000 tonnes of cotton-fiber for sale at the Sixth International Uzbek Cotton Fair and plans to sign agreements for almost US$500 million.
