Economy 04/06/2007 Uzbekistan to increase export of fruits and vegetables to Russia

Uzbekistan started to supply fresh fruit and vegetables to stores in Moscow, Russia, UzA reported.

The report said quoting chief of export promotion department of the Chamber of Commerce of Uzbekistan Vyacheslav Sharipov, several Uzbek export companies and Russia’s Victoria trading-transport firm signed the agreement on deliveries of the large quantity of agricultural products for the Russian consumers.

Mr Sharipov noted that this season Uzbekistan is ready to increase considerably supplies of fruit and vegetable products for Russian customers. In 2006 export of the Uzbek agricultural products increased almost 4 times. The total amount of those exports totaled US$362.6 million.

The main consumer of those products was Russia. Russia accounted for 86% (in 2005 - about 50%) in export of agricultural products. Last year 596,800 tonnes of fruit and vegetables were exported to Russia for US$280.9 million.
