Uzbekistan to increase excise tax for tobacco, alcohol products
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will increase excise tax for production of alcohol and tobacco production by 25-50% from 1 January 2010. The move is envisaged in the project of Draft State Budget, which was approved by the Uzbek parliament last week.

The excise tax for alcohol products, beer, cigarettes with filters and alcohol will increase by 25% and cigarettes without filters by 50%.

The decision was appointed to harmonize taxation of alcohol and tobacco producers in Uzbekistan due to high profitability of the production.

Currently, excise tax for cigarettes with filters, produced in Uzbekistan, set at the level of 5,727 soums per 1,000 unite and cigarettes without filters - 1,919 soums per 1,000 unit.

The excise tax for wine makes up 3,300 soums per 1 decilitre, wine - 1,500 soums per beer, cognac, vodka and other alcohol products with total share of ethyl alcohol up to 40% - 12,430 soums per deciliter and products with total share of over 40% - 20,482 soums per deciliter.
