Uzbekistan to host the VI International Congress of the World Society "Cultural heritage of Uzbekistan - the basis of a new Renaissance"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22-24 July 2022, Samarkand will host the VI International Congress of the World Society "Cultural heritage of Uzbekistan - the basis of a new Renaissance".

The event is organized by the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Popularization of the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan with the support of over 10 international and 5 national organizations. The general sponsor-organizer of the Congress is the Eriell Group.

The key event of the Congress will be the presentation of 10 new volumes of books-albums of the series "Cultural heritage of Uzbekistan in the collections of the world" (51-60 volumes). Thus, a collection of illustrated books, on which more than 350 scientists from more than 25 countries worked, 100 libraries and museums of world renown, has already reached 60 volumes.

In addition, a presentation of a unique edition of an ancient manuscript is planned. One of Europe's leading publishing houses Mueller & Schindler will show a facsimile of the rarest manuscript, commissioned by the outstanding son of the Uzbek land, astrologer Mirzo Ulugbek. The historical value and authenticity of this rare ancient manuscript, kept in the collection of the National Library of France, is beyond doubt.

The bright moments of the Congress will also be round tables on such topics as "Heritage that unites peoples: Central Asia and Azerbaijan", "New directions of the World Society: plans and prospects", "National museums and collections in the focus of the World Society".

Also within the framework of the Congress there will be a presentation of two unique books about the art of Uzbekistan. These are deluxe editions “On the banks of the Aral and Amu. Art of the Karakalpaks” and “Ornament: Aesthetics, Magic, Meaning”.

On 22 July, the International Scientific Conference "Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in the Focus of Modern Science" will be held at the Palace of Youth Creativity in Samarkand.

“The project “Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan in the Collections of the World” can be safely called one of the brightest results of the policy of New Uzbekistan, the reforms carried out by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the field of culture. According to the Development Strategy of Uzbekistan, since 2016 the issue of studying, preserving and popularizing the cultural heritage of Uzbekistan has been elevated to the rank of state policy of the state, and this approach, attention from the President and the government, are yielding results that are already recognized by the whole world. We are grateful to the government of the country for providing support in organizing the Congress. I would also like to express gratitude to our permanent general sponsor and organizer, the Eriell Group company, which has supported the project from the very day it was founded,” said the Chairman of the World Society for the Study, Preservation and Promotion of Cultural Heritage Uzbekistan Firdavs Abdukhalikov.

The participants of the Congress have already received dozens of appeals and words of welcome.

Thus, the Executive Director of the Al-Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation, Sali Shahsivari, expressed confidence that the Cultural Heritage of Uzbekistan project would bring countries and peoples together.

“The project to search for and preserve the heritage of Uzbekistan around the world is a great way to bring hundreds of countries closer together. Uzbekistan sets an example of how to protect its cultural heritage to all countries,” said Sali Shahsivari.

“Renaissance in the context of a country means that it retains its roots, identity, traditions, and at the same time moves forward and develops. Uzbekistan has realized the importance of this balance. Such great attention to its cultural heritage is worthy of respect and admiration. And a gigantic share of the work in this direction is undertaken by the World Society and the Cultural Heritage project. It has already been reflected in many museums and libraries around the world, and this is very valuable,” said Frederick Starr, Chairman, Expert, Central Asia and Caucasus Institute.

“In the libraries of Russia, we appreciate the monuments of the book culture of Uzbekistan in our collections, we are aware of their influence on Russian culture and therefore we consider it our duty to take part in the important work of collecting and studying these monuments, which is carried out by the World Society and the results of which will be presented at the VI International Congress,” said Mikhail Afanasiev, President of the Russian Library Association, Director of the State Public Historical Library of Russia.
