Uzbekistan to direct US$547m to automobile road development in 2011
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will invest over US$547 million of capital investments to construction and reconstruction of automobile roads, the Uzbek President said on Friday at the session of the government.

Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan held the session on 21 January 2011 to discuss social-economic development in 2010 and important priorities of economic programme in 2011.

Speaking at the session, President said the government should pay attention to fast implementation of projects on construction and reconstruction of automobile roads, which is part of Uzbek national highway, further creation of single national automobile transport systems, linking all regions of Uzbekistan.

He said that Uzbekistan will direct US$547 million of investments to this purpose in 2011, which is 1.4 times up compared to 2010 and 302 km of roads, meeting international standards, will be commissioned.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov underlined that Uzbekistan should speed up work on reconstruction of mountain art of Tashkent-Andijan road, which passes through Kamchik crossing with four-lane cement concrete pavement. He said that Uzbekistan ensure year-long transport communication of Ferghana Valley with other regions of Uzbekistan.

Uzbek head said that it is important to attract resources of international financial institutions to modernization of roads. He said that it is planned that the Asian Development Bank, Islamic Development Bank, Kuwait Fund of Arabic Economic Cooperation and OPEC Fund will issue over US$152 million.

According to President, the funds for US$378 million were directed to construction and reconstruction of roads in 2010. The growth rate made up 31.5% year-on-year. The country commissioned 270 km roads.

He said that the ADB and Uzbekistan inked agreement on allocating credit line for US$600 million for construction and reconstruction of 222 km of roads with cement concrete pavement, which are part of the Uzbek national highway.

President Islam Karimov recalled that Uzbekistan adopted a programme on speeding up development of infrastructure, transport and communication construction for 2011-2015. He said that the programme is linked with implemented programmes on perspective development of industries and territories of Uzbekistan.

It is worth to note that it is planned to direct about US$7 billion to realization of 85 investment projects, of which US$1.2 billion will be used in 2011.
