Uzbekistan to direct 89bn soums for formation of electronic library
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will direct 89 billion soums to implementation of programme on stage-by-stage formation of electronic library in all information-library and information-resource centers, creation of integrated information-library network in the country, designed for 2010-2015.

This was announced at national video conference, organized by the Committee on information and communication technologies of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis in cooperation with the Uzbek Agency for Communication and Information.

MPs, specialists from libraries, experts, lawyers and journalists participated in the video conference, which considered improvement of draft law “On information-library activity”, passed in the first reading by lower house of parliament.

It was noted that the presidential resolution “On organization of information-library services for population of Uzbekistan” became the powerful stimulus for development of the sector.

In line with the document, information-library and information-resource centers are operating in Uzbekistan. Currently, total number of them reached 12,000. The state budget for 2010 allocated over 47 billion soums to information-library establishments of the country.

It was said that it is widely accepted worldwide to adopt law, regulating development of information-library activity.

It was noted that the law on library, which is currently considered at lower house of parliament, is directed at creating principally new information centers, directed at satisfying needs of new generation, preserving cultural and spiritual-moral values. The document regulates this sphere.

The law envisages to assist systematic education and self-education of students and population with use of modern technologies, ensure access to cultural-historic heritage of population, etc.

During the meeting, the participants discussed improvement of the law and activity of information-library establishments.
