Economy22/09/2008Uzbekistan to deliver marble for construction of Olympic venues in Sochi
The relevant contract was signed between the Russian state company Olimpstroy and the joint-stock Uzstroymateriallari. The colored, most expensive and high-quality gazgan marble, which is produced in Navoi region, will be dispatched to Sochi.
"Gazgan marble is recognized as environmentally safe product," Shavkat Rahmatov, the chairman of the joint-stock Gazganmramor, said. "Therefore, it is appraised at the world market. We have inked an agreement to deliver marble slabs for US$10 million for construction of sport buildings at the winter Olympic Games in the Russian city of Sochi," he said.
At present six huge marble mines are under development in the country, the Joint-Stock Uzstroymateriallari Company said. Gazgan field is the hugest field in Uzbekistan. Gazgan marble has more than 30 tints and colors under the specialists’ assessment.
Marble slabs will be designed in pink, cream-colored and dark-grey tints for the Russian customer.
