Economy 28/10/2008 Uzbekistan to cut cotton fields by 75,800 ha

Tashkent (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will decrease raw cotton production by 200,000 tonnes to 3.4 million tonnes in 2009 in line with the presidential resolution.

As earlier reported, the Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a resolution to optimize the crop lands and increasing production of food crops.

The document said that the country will decrease lands, allocated to cotton production, by 75,800 hectares next year. Overall, 1.315 million hectares will be sown with cotton.

Uzbekistan will use 48,800 hectares out of 75,800 under production of grain products and 27,000 hectares to production of vegetables, potato and oil crops.
