Uzbekistan to continue to develop road-transport infrastructure
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan will continue to realize a strategy on creation of modern road-transport infrastructure, integrated into international communications network, the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Rustam Azimov said at the first-ever United Nations Global Sustainable Transport Conference, which was held in Ashgabat (Turkmenistan).

He said that it is difficult overate actual issues, included to the agenda of the global forum to ensure sustainable development of Central Asia.

Vice-Premier recalled that the First President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, speaking in various high tribunes, underlined that projects on creating efficient transport communications, construction of new and modernization of existing corridors, form modern infrastructure of cargo transportation are important for sustainable and balanced development of each country of the Central Asian region and globally.

Speaking about vision of Uzbekistan on main perspectives of development of transport communications and international cooperation in this sphere, Rustam Azimov said that it is necessary to realize deeply thought-out long-term national programmes for development of transport networks and logistics infrastructure.

Rustam Azimov recalled that Uzbekistan realized tens large projects on creation of modern communications, single system of transport communication and developed logistics infrastructure in last 25 years.

Uzbek official said that Uzbekistan launched railway Tashguzar-Baisun-Kumkurgan and high speed railway communication from Tashkent to Bukhara, Samarkand and Qarshi. The railway from Bukhara to Misken was also constructed.

Uzbekistan realized projects on electrification of railway, modernization of trains, constructed tens of railway stations. The country built foundry-mechanical plant and launched production of modern freight and passenger cars, he said. Azimov added that such examples can be given in aviation and automobile transport, as well as creation of logistics infrastructure.

Rustam Azimov said that Uzbekistan understands that long-term perspectives of development of transport communications and transit capacities will be one of important factors of sustainable economic growth of Uzbekistan.

First Vice-Premier underlined that Interim President Shavkat Mirziyoyev as one of priorities of further conducting structural reforms in Uzbekistan determined continuation of realization of strategy on creating modern road-transport infrastructure, integrated to international communication networks.

Azimov said that each state at realizing strategies and approaches to realize transport potential should be integrated these strategies to regional and global transit corridors, both existing and newly created.

Rustam Azimov said that within the principle, Uzbekistan realizes not only programme on creation of reliable single, whole national transport systems, but also focus on ensuring its compatibility with main directions and parameters of developing of regional and global transport corridors.

Uzbek official stated that Uzbekistan launched a railway “Angren-Pap”, which was commissioned in 2016. He said that the length of the line is 123 km and unique 19-km tunnel via Qamchiq pass was constructed.

The launch created single railway transport system of Uzbekistan and created perspectives of creation of transit corridor, which link Central Asia with China with the short road.

Azimov said that Uzbekistan also constructed Termez-Mazari-Sharif railroad at financial support of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

He said that the railroad will create opportunity to create trans-Afghan transport corridor, which will allow Central Asian states to receive access to Indian Ocean via ports in Pakistan and Iran.

This will contribute to rehabilitation of economy and infrastructure of Afghanistan and its attraction to regional trade-economic cooperation, Azimov said.

Uzbek First Vice-Premier stated that Uzbekistan supports initiative of China on creation of Economic Belt of the Silk Road.

He said that construction of the railroad in Central Asia will help to link Southern-Eastern, Central, Southern Asia and Middle East. Azimov said that Central Asia states were and remain heart of the Great Silk Road.

Uzbekistan pays key role to creation of modern logistic infrastructure, Rustam Azimov said.

He said that Uzbekistan creates modern transportation infrastructure, first of all, large logical centers.

He noted that in cooperation with Korean Air, international inter-modal logistics center was created on the base of Navoi Airport, capacities of which allow to process up to 1 million tonnes of cargo a year. The activities of the center is developing, he added.

Azimov said that the center conducts trans-continental on 23 directions and regional supply of goods via railway and automobile transports.
