President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution “On measures on preparing and holding selective statistic research of population” on 14 March 2011.

In line with the document, the research is directed at clarifying estimates of population of the country and other demographic figures for development of targeted social-economic development of territories and programmes on creation of new jobs in places, as well as further development of the system of state statistic observation.

The document said that selective statistic research is planned to hold from 21 April to 30 April in all regions of Uzbekistan and it will cover 10% of population.

State Committee of Uzbekistan on Statistics will form a list of city and rural residential areas and mahallas (neighbourhood), which will be observed.

Ministry of Finance will issue 824.2 million soums from the Government’s Reserve Fund to the State Statistics Committee to finance work on holding selective statistics research of population number.

The resolution said that population (independently from citizenship), who regularly live in set territory and those who temporarily on leave, will be observed.

The questionnaire will be in Russian and Uzbek languages and it will include 12 questions, which will be filled on each family member separately.

Employees of the statistics bodies, teachers and students of universities, lyceums, colleges and schools will participate in gathering data. The State Statistics Committee will pay their services due to issued funds to conduct the research.

In line with the resolution, the persons, attracted to polling population, will have to poll at average 50 persons a day.

It is planned to finalize results of research and calculation of final statistics figures will be completed by 1 July 2011.

Number of permanent population of Uzbekistan made up 28,234 million at the end of 2010, the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan said.
