Uzbekistan to build infrastructure along national motorway for US$500m
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 20 October, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov approved a programme on development of roadside infrastructure and service along the national motorway of Uzbekistan with extension of 2,755 km. About US$500 million will be directed to construction of roadside infrastructure in 2010-2015.

Within the programme, it is planned to construct 23 camping-sites and 28 motels, 75 gas stations, 59 gas-filling compressor stations, 73 service and medical stations, 45 health centers and 47 short-time parking areas.

In line with approve requirements, the distance between camping-sites and motels should be 100 km and short-time parking areas - 15-20 km. The document said service centers and trade points can be constructed at the rest areas.

The construction will be financed due to resources of businesses, regional budgets and National Road Fund.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov approved programme on construction of national motorway of the first category in 2009-2014 with the cost of US$2.6 billion. It is planned to construct four motorways by 2015.

The project will be financed due to resources of the Uzbek Government for US$1.68 billion and the credit of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), credit line of China to the SCO member states and other international financial institutes.
