The article said 50 projects will be implemented at the zone and enterprises, created within these projects, will produce goods for over US$1.5 billion annually. It added that products for US$1 billion will be exported.
It said Uzbekistan plans to double number of implemented projects in 2010 and volume of investments will reach US$5.5 billion. The zone will produce goods for US$7.5 billion-US$8 billion annually. Products for about US$5billion will be exported.
The Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a decree on creation of Navoi free industrial and economic zone in December 2008. The zone will function for 30 years. Special customs, currency and tax regimes will act during this period.
