Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan will attend the World Climate Summit, a part of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in Dubai on 1-2 December 2023. 

This Forum will bring together representatives of almost all countries of the world, major international organizations and civil society. The event is crucial for consolidating international efforts to combat climate change and mitigate its consequences, finance climate strategies and for transition to green energy. 

Climate change is becoming one of the most acute problems for Central Asia, which is already facing an environmental crisis caused by the drying up of the Aral Sea.

Uzbekistan has taken a serious approach to promoting the green agenda, taking measures to adapt key sectors of the economy to climate change, achieve carbon neutrality, and increase the share of renewable energy. 

Our country actively participates in multilateral efforts to address global environmental challenges. In particular, on 13-17 November 2023, Samarkand will host the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 21) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. The delegations from over 130 countries will attend the event. 

Next year, Samarkand will also be the venue of the International Climate Forum, which will discuss a draft UN General Assembly resolution on support for Central Asian countries’ efforts to combat climate change.

At the forthcoming COP 28 session in Dubai, Uzbekistan will put forward a number of proposals and initiatives aimed at strengthening the fight against climate change at the national, regional and global levels.
