Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to abandon the state practice of regulating tariffs for freight cars, as well as high-speed and fast passenger transport services.

The Senate Committee on Budget and Economic Reforms of the Oliy Majlis has reviewed a new draft law titled "On Railway Transport."

The document revises the definition of "railway transport," which is now divided into general and non-general use transport.

The law provides for the formation of tariffs for railway transport based on market principles. Specifically, it proposes to eliminate state regulation of tariffs for freight car services and high-speed passenger transport, replacing it with a market mechanism.

Additionally, the law introduces a procedure for compensating losses from passenger transport on domestic routes (excluding high-speed and fast trains) from the State Budget, which will help cover the costs for carriers.
