Uzbekistan: The New Key of Asia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Over the past few years, Uzbekistan has been making waves on the global stage, evolving from a quiet nation in Central Asia to a vital bridge between major powers like China and Russia. This transformation is no accident—it’s a product of bold leadership, strategic partnerships, and a clear vision for the future.

Let’s start with geography. Uzbekistan is at the heart of Asia, a landlocked country surrounded by some of the world’s fastest-growing economies. It’s no surprise that China sees Uzbekistan as a critical link in its Belt and Road Initiative. The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project is just one example of how this country is connecting East and West, creating opportunities not just for itself but for the entire region.

When President Shavkat Mirziyoyev spoke about “creating reliable supply chains and transcontinental corridors” at the BRICS Summit, it wasn’t just rhetoric. It’s happening—right now.

Under Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan has undergone a remarkable transformation. His speeches often emphasize one thing: the people. He made it clear that his government’s ultimate goal is to improve the lives of ordinary citizens. And the numbers back it up: The economy has doubled in size, with exports reaching $25 billion , Foreign investments have increased sixfold, creating over 1.5 million high-paying jobs , and Partnerships with countries like China have flourished, with trade surpassing $10 billion.

Mirziyoyev’s vision for a "New Uzbekistan" isn’t just about economic growth—it’s about inclusivity. He often says, “A new Uzbekistan means a nation where every voice is heard.”

What’s particularly fascinating is how Uzbekistan balances its relationships with Russia and China. With Russia, it shares deep historical and economic ties. They’re working together on energy, agriculture, and security. With China, the focus is more forward-looking: renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and modern logistics.

This dual alignment gives Uzbekistan a unique position in the world. It’s a trusted partner to two of the most influential countries globally, while also maintaining its independence.

At the BRICS Plus Summit, Uzbekistan didn’t hold back. Mirziyoyev laid out his country’s ambitions: sustainable growth, regional stability, and deeper integration into global trade. His remarks about “helping Afghanistan achieve socio-economic stability rather than isolating it” struck a chord, reflecting Uzbekistan’s role as a stabilizing force in Central Asia.

And What I find most inspiring about Uzbekistan is its focus on the long term. The country is not just reacting to global events; it’s proactively shaping its future. From prioritizing education and health to investing in green energy, Uzbekistan is showing the world that transformation is possible—even in challenging times.

For me, Uzbekistan serves as a reminder that nations can rise through thoughtful leadership, strategic partnerships, and a commitment to their people. It’s a lesson that many countries, including my own, can learn from.

As President Mirziyoyev often says: “The economy must serve the people.” Uzbekistan is proving that this principle can lead not just to growth, but to true progress.
