Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — One hundred injured Palestinian women and children, along with their accompanying guardians, have been temporarily evacuated from Rafah to Uzbekistan. This was announced by Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Egypt, Mansurbek Kilichev, in an interview with the Egyptian news portal Ahram.
The evacuation was carried out at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in collaboration with the health ministries of both countries, the diplomat clarified.
According to Kilichev, the evacuees will remain in Uzbekistan until it becomes safe for them to return to their homeland. During their stay, they will be accommodated in rehabilitation centers and hospitals where they will receive necessary medical care and support for recovery.
The government of Uzbekistan will ensure comfortable living conditions for the evacuees, providing housing, food, medical assistance, and educational services for the children, the ambassador emphasized.
Mansurbek Kilichev also recalled that in November, President Mirziyoyev, speaking at an extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit on Palestine, highlighted the importance of ending military actions in Palestinian territories and establishing humanitarian corridors. The President expressed Uzbekistan’s readiness to host injured women and children for treatment and rehabilitation.
Additionally, in November of last year, President Mirziyoyev signed a resolution to allocate US$1.5 million in support of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to assist Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip.
