Uzbekistan Temir Yollari carries out preparation work to use of Talgo-250 trains
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan Temir Yollari state joint stock railway company will launch high-speed route between Tashkent and Samarkand in mid-2011, head of information service of the railway company Haydarali Mamadaliev said.

Pravda Vostoka reported that the company will purchase two high-speed trains Talgo-250.

New trains will be run between Tashkent and Samarkand at the speed of 250 km per hour, which will decrease travel time by one third. The distance between two cities is 356 km. Currently, high-speed train Registan between Tashkent and Samarkand cities and travel time is 3.5 hours.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a resolution in January 2010, which approved sources for financing purchase of two high-speed trains Talgo-250.

Haydarali Mamadaliev said the contract deal is 38 million euros. Uzbekistan Temir Yollari will finance 50% of contract sum due to own resources. Fund for Reconstruction and Development will issue loan to finance other 50% of the project. National Bank of Uzbekistan for Foreign Economic Activity will refinance the loan. The loan issued for ten years with two-year grace period.

The Uzbek railway company already started realization of the project on constructing railway infrastructure between Tashkent and Samarkand, so it meets international standards.

The railway company is working on improving technical conditions of railroads and other necessary equipment. The company is also installing fences.

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari hired scientific-research enterprise Kuprik, which carried out complex works at contact network at the Tashkent and Samarkand area.

Within the project, the construction of two-lane electrified railroad between Yangiyer and Jizzakh with the extension of 127 km and one-lane railroad with length of 23 km is underway. The company is also building 110-meter bridge of Sarkisov channel.

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari state joint-stock railway company held negotiations with Spain’s PATENTES TALGO, S.L. and inked contract on purchase of two high-speed passenger trains of Talgo AVE 250 series (Spain) with 18 cars.
