Uzbekistan suspends tour operators for illegally organizing Umrah pilgrimages

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Committee for Religious Affairs of Uzbekistan has uncovered additional violations in the organization of Umrah pilgrimages, according to the press service of the agency.

In particular, in Margilan, the company Xurmo Travel Umra was found to be providing Umrah services under the brand Saxiy Travel, but it was operating without a license for pilgrimage organization.

Additionally, individuals in the Chilanzar district of Tashkent were found to be organizing Umrah pilgrimages under the name Sokin Travel, without having registered a legal entity. A similar situation was uncovered with the operator Anor Tour in the city of Denau, Surkhandarya region.

In response to these violations, the Committee imposed a fine of 200 sizes of basic estimated value (75 million soums) on Xurmo Travel Umra. Materials regarding Anor Tour and Sokin Travel have been forwarded to law enforcement authorities.

The government approved a list of companies authorized to organize Umrah pilgrimages in November 2024. This list includes six companies from Tashkent, three from Namangan, and one each from Andijan, Margilan, and Urgench.

Under the new regulations, pilgrimage organizers are required to contribute $1 million to the "Ziyorat" fund and sign agreements with partner organizations in Saudi Arabia. Organizers are also responsible for providing medical assistance, food, accommodation in hotels, and other related services for pilgrims.
