Uzbekistan supportsh a resolution calling for consideration of Palestinian membership in the UN

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan voted for a resolution recommending that the UN Security Council reconsider the issue of accepting Palestine as a full member of the organization.

The UN General Assembly considered a draft resolution recommending that the Security Council reconsider the issue of accepting Palestine as a full member of the organization. 143 states voted for the resolution, including Uzbekistan. Another 25 countries abstained and nine opposed, including the United States and Israel.

The document consists of nine points and contains a provision that, on an exclusive basis and without creating a precedent, Palestine should be granted a number of procedural rights as a permanent member of the UN General Assembly.

In particular, Palestine will have the right to be included in the list of speakers at meetings on Middle East topics, propose amendments and make procedural proposals on behalf of a group of countries.

However, it will remain an observer state and will not have the right to vote in the General Assembly, and its representatives will not be able to nominate candidates for posts in UN bodies.
