Uzbekistan supports UN General Assembly resolution urging Israel to release occupied Golan heights

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling on Israel to release the occupied Golan Heights.

The document was supported by 91 countries, including Uzbekistan and other Central Asian states. Eight countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada, opposed the resolution, and 62 countries abstained.

The resolution expresses deep concern that Israel has not withdrawn from the Syrian Golan Heights, occupied since 1967, despite relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and the General Assembly.

The Golan Heights, covering an area of about 1,800 square kilometers, were previously part of Syria. However, after the 1967 war, Israel gained control of this territory. Subsequently, it passed a law formally incorporating the Golan Heights into Israel.

The UN Security Council condemned this move. Syria still considers the Golan Heights its territory and sees their return as a key condition for signing a peace agreement with Israel.
