Uzbekistan Strengthens Data Governance: OSCE Workshop on the Use of Open and Gender Data in the Public Sector
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 29–30 July 2025, a two-day workshop was held in the Tashkent region, organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan in partnership with the International Open Data Charter (ODC) and supported by the National Statistics Committee.
The event focused on the effective use of open and gender-disaggregated data in the work of government bodies.
The aim of the workshop was to enhance institutional and professional capacity in data governance, strengthen interagency cooperation, and improve the quality of decision-making based on reliable and accessible information.
Participants included representatives from key ministries, agencies, and state enterprises. Special attention was given to the use of gender-disaggregated data in shaping inclusive public policy, as well as the role of open data in ensuring transparency, accountability, and progress toward national and international sustainable development goals.
The discussions covered current approaches to cataloguing existing datasets, identifying gaps in statistical information, and strengthening mechanisms for cross-sectoral cooperation.
“Building a reliable data governance system requires not only technological solutions but also agreed priorities. Uzbekistan is demonstrating a growing commitment to openness. This workshop has provided an important platform for dialogue, identifying existing challenges, and promoting the use of open and gender data as a tool for inclusive and evidence-based policymaking,” said Renato Berrino, Research Director of the International Open Data Charter.
The workshop was conducted within the framework of an OSCE project supporting reforms in effective and accountable governance in Uzbekistan.
Such initiatives contribute to strengthening the country’s standing in international rankings and fostering a sustainable, data-driven system of public administration.
