Uzbekistan, South Korea discuss development of bilateral ties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 4 July 2012 a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which arrived in Seoul for participation at the Sixth Republic of Korea – Central Asia Cooperation Forum, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea Kim Sung-Hwan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said that the parties examined the current state and prospects of development of bilateral relations, the issues of interaction within international organisations.

It was highlighted that for 20 years after establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea the parties accumulated significant experience of mutually beneficial cooperation in political, trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The ministers exchanged views on the course of implementation of previously approved Uzbek-Korean agreements and the schedule of forthcoming interstate meetings.

It was noted that the regular political dialogue at the highest level is a solid base of friendly relations between the countries. The meeting of the President Islam Karimov and President Lee Myung-Bak in August 2011, agreements on joint prospective projects in various sectors of the economy gave a new impetus to bilateral cooperation.

At present a total amount of invesments, earmarked by the South Korean partners, has exceeded US$5 billion and the amount of already materialized investments has topped US$2 billion. In 2011 mutual trade volume constituted US$1.6 billion.

During conversation the issues of interaction in education, healthcare, tourism, sports, scientific and student exchanges, culture were also discussed.
