Uzbekistan, Slovenia ink treaty on avoiding double taxation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan and the Government of Slovenia signed an agreement on avoiding double taxation and preventing evasion from payment of income and capital taxes in Ljubljana on 11 February 2013.

According to the State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan, the chairperson of the State Tax Committee of Uzbekistan Botir Parpiev and State Secretary of Ministry of Finance of Slovenia Marko Pogačnik inked the document.

During the meeting, the sides expressed satisfaction with signing of the agreement and noted importance of the document to increase mutual investments into economies of two states, achievement of long-term cooperation goals, assist to development of economic, industrial, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation.

The Slovenian side was informed about peculiarities and achievements of the Uzbek model of economic development, developed by the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov and based on five principles. It was said that the model proved its efficiency.

The participants of the meeting also were briefed about anti-crisis programme, implementation of which allowed to keep high growth of economy of Uzbekistan despite global economic crisis.

The Slovenian side expressed interest in current favourable economic situation in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek State Tax Committee said. The Uzbek side also briefed Slovenian counterparts about tax preferences and privileges, provided by the government to investors. The Slovenian side also expressed interest in activities of free industrial-economic zone Navoi and special economic zone Angren. The Uzbek side handed over various material about Uzbekistan, its economic and investment climate to the Slovenian side.

State Secretary of Ministry of Finance of Slovenia Marko Pogačnik said that the agreement will serve as positive step for further strengthening of economic relations and increasing investment-economic activity of Slovenian firms in Uzbekistan.

Marko Pogačnik briefed the Uzbek side on structural tax reforms in the country, which were conducted in line with positive experience of the EU states, introduction of information technologies into tax sector.

In this connection, the Uzbek side handed over questions to the Slovenian side on introduction of ICT into tax sector and offered to exchange experience in this direction.

Marko Pogačnik expressed readiness to strengthen cooperation with the Uzbek side and share Slovenian experience in use of modern technologies in tax sector.

Underlining impressive economic achievement of Uzbekistan, Pogačnik stated that the Ministry of Finance of Slovenia will share materials, handed over by Uzbek side, to Ministry of economy and Chamber of Commerce of Slovenia and further to potential Slovenian investors. It was said that information should attract interest of business circles.

Director-general of Tax Service of Slovenia and System of Tax, Custom and Other Public Finance Revenues Directorate of the Ministry of Finance of Slovenia Zlatko Alibegović expressed interest of Slovenia in strengthening of economic cooperation with Uzbekistan. He said that eight Slovenian companies have positive work experience in Uzbekistan.

Zlatko Alibegović said that information about investment climate of Uzbekistan, handed over by the Uzbek side, is important for informing business circles of Slovenia.

The Uzbek side underlined that it is important to ensure full implementation of agreement in near future, which will expand bilateral investment and trade relations.
