Uzbekistan-Slovakia: issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 17 April this year, Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva met with a delegation of the Parliament of the Slovak Republic headed by Chairman of the National Council of Slovakia Boris Kollar.

The sides discussed the current state and prospects of relations between Uzbekistan and Slovakia, in particular, issues of further development of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.

During the dialogue, it was noted that at present both countries have sufficient potential to bring to a new level all areas of mutual cooperation, including trade, investment, cultural and humanitarian relations.

Chairwoman of the Senate Tanzila Narbayeva stressed the consistent development of inter-parliamentary relations, which serves to expand relations between Uzbekistan and Slovakia, in general, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, as well as the need for mutual visits of parliamentarians, exchange of experience in the field of legislation, parliamentary control and other areas. Emphasizing the importance of systematic and effective establishment of relations with the Slovak Parliament at all levels, the need to intensify mutual cooperation was noted, using the possibilities of another important mechanism for mutual dialogue - the institution of inter-parliamentary friendship groups.

In turn, Boris Kollar expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and noted with satisfaction that Uzbekistan had achieved progressive democratic transformations in a short time, opening up to the world and taking a worthy and lasting place in the world community. He also welcomed the strengthening of the powers of the Uzbek parliament in the process of today’s constitutional reforms. It was especially emphasized that Slovakia is interested in further strengthening trade and economic cooperation with Uzbekistan and it is necessary to widely use the potential of inter-parliamentary dialogue.

During the conversation, an exchange of views also took place between the relevant parliamentary committees on establishing permanent ties in trade, economic, investment, innovation, banking, financial, tourism, cultural, humanitarian and other fields. In particular, it was said that trade and economic relations are one of the priority areas of bilateral cooperation, despite the positive dynamics of the growth of mutual trade over the past two years, the indicators do not fully reflect the existing economic opportunities of the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached on the exchange of experience in the field of parliamentary activities, the intensification of inter-parliamentary relations at the level of heads of relevant committees and friendship groups, mutual support and coordination of the positions of the parties within the framework of international parliamentary organizations.
