Uzbekistan signs loan agreements for US$508m with IFIs in 4Q 2016
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan signed credit agreements for US$508 million with international financial institutions (IFIs) in the fourth quarter of 2016.

The Uzbek Government and World Bank signed a credit agreement for US$200 million within the project “Development of regional automobile roads”. The cost of the project is US$240 million.

The project will allow to reconstruct 37 sections of priority regional automobile roads with the length of 294 km in Tashkent, Ferghana, Andijan and Namangan regions, as well as access roads and associated drainage systems.

Uzbekistan also signed a loan agreement with Islamic Development Bank on financing project “Reconstruction and expansion of the urban sewage systems of Gulistan, Shirin and Yangiyer of Syrdarya region”. The bank issued a loan for US$57.5 million and the cost of the project is US$60.8 million.

The project is aimed at reducing pollution by sewage and improving the efficiency and sustainability of wastewater collection and treatment systems through the reconstruction and expansion of the existing wastewater treatment plants, sewage networks and pumping stations in the cities of Gulistan, Shirin and Yangiyer.

Uzbekistan and French Development Agency (AFD) signed a loan agreement on realization of the project “Modernization of solid waste management in Samarkand city” with the cost of US$23.5 million.

The project with the cost of US$36.5 million is directed at modernizing system of solid waste management in Samarkand city via improving system of collection, processing and utilization of solid waste.

In the fourth quarter of 2016, Uzbekistan signed two credit agreements with Korea Eximbank.

The sides signed a credit agreement on financing of the project “Construction of new international passenger terminal at Tashkent Airport (Tashkent-4). Korea Eximbank will provide a loan for US$200 million to finance the project with the cost of US$430.4 million within the agreement.

The project is directed at developing infrastructure of international airport of Tashkent city via construction of new passenger terminal, increasing capacity of the airport, improving quality of services to passenger of international flights.

Korea Eximbank will also allocate US$27.4 million to create Data Processing Center of the Electronic Government system. The cost of the project is US$41.43 million.

The project will help to create an infrastructure for data storage and processing for the system “Electronic Government” and develop interactive public services, as well as ensure the information security of the information resources of state bodies.
