Uzbekistan should pay attention to new nuclear technologies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Scientists and specialists from Uzbekistan should actively participate in international events, such as Atomexpo, to enrich knowledge and gain experience, the director of the Ma’no research initiative center Bakhtiyor Ergashev underlined on the sidelines of the Atomexpo forum. in Sochi.

Ergashev noted that since 2018 he has been participating in the ATOMEXPO international forum, and during this time the topics and problems raised at the forum have changed significantly.

If in 2018 the participants discussed the need for nuclear energy for humanity and the prospects for this industry after the Fukushima incident, now experts have reached a consensus on the need to develop nuclear energy for the future of humanity.

He emphasized that many experts consider nuclear energy an important area of “green” energy, which was reflected in the forum theme “Clean Energy: Creating the Future Together.”

The development of “green” technologies and the use of safe and efficient energy sources are important for every country, given environmental problems in the world, the expert noted.

Bakhtiyor Ergashev noted that discussions at the forum concerned the use of nuclear technologies in various fields, such as healthcare, logistics, food security, digitalization, etc.

Particular attention was paid to the discussion of generation IV nuclear technologies, which make it possible to solve the problem of disposal of used fuel, emphasized the head of Ma’no.

In new generation power plants, used nuclear fuel will be processed into MOX fuel and reused in the plants, he said.

And this is critically important for the energy future and will allow reducing uranium production, the expert noted.

Uzbekistan is currently considering a project to build a nuclear power plant, and according to Ergashev, the time has come to pay attention to new nuclear technologies.

Uzbekistan should consider nuclear energy not only as a source of electricity, but as a driver of the country’s development, Ergashev said. Nuclear energy will allow the country to develop medicine, pharmaceuticals, industry, education, science and other sectors.

In general, he encouraged Uzbek specialists and researchers to take an active part in such forums and events in order to improve their knowledge and competencies.
