Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan has approved new rules for the use of electric scooters and other personal mobility devices (PMDs).
According to the introduced changes, the speed of electric scooters on sidewalks, pedestrian, and bicycle paths is limited to 10 km/h.
On the roadway, movement is permitted at speeds up to 20 km/h, with the requirement to keep to the right side of the road and yield to other traffic when exiting residential areas.
The new rules also apply to segways, electric skateboards, unicycles, and monowheels.
All PMDs must be equipped with headlights or lights, a horn, and reflectors.
Driving PMDs is allowed for individuals over 14 years old, except in enclosed areas.
It is prohibited to carry passengers and to operate the devices while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The concept of a scooter now includes tricycles and quadricycles that move at speeds over 25 km/h or with an engine capacity from 25 cubic centimeters to 4 kW. Riders of such vehicles are required to wear motorcycle helmets.
